Highland Clubhouse

A place where we live for today and offer hope for tomorrow

Who We Are

Highland Clubhouse is a diverse community of people who support one another in mental health wellness. This includes those living with and in recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders.

We are modeled after Clubhouse International, an evidence-based program going back to 1948 when the first clubhouse was founded in New York City, making it one of the oldest ongoing peer support programs in existence.

Highland Clubhouse is not a mental health treatment program but rather a safe place for those who desire to improve the quality of their lives through meaningful work and social relationships. A place for those who are seeking mental wellness and belonging with dignity and respect.

What We Do

Members and staff support one another and work side by side as peers in the “work ordered day”. This includes all aspects of the Clubhouse operations such as: planning activities, daily meetings, member education/training (with possible community employment opportunities), goal setting, food preparation, cleaning, promoting the clubhouse and more. Teamwork is essential! The growth, opportunities and services offered at the clubhouse are all dependent on the size of our community, member participation and individual needs.

One of our goals for the Highland Clubhouse is to serve as a bridge to our community in ways of employment, activities and education.

A place where the stigma of mental illness ends and mental wellness begins.

Membership is open to anyone 18 years or older, living with mental illness or substance disorder and who desires support in their recovery. Because membership is voluntary, free and lifelong, you just need to walk through the Highland Clubhouse door and join others who offer support in recovery.

Membership is not for any person who poses a significant and current threat to the general safety or wellbeing of the Highland Clubhouse community.
