The Shove House

Therapeutic Supportive Housing

The Shove House provides safe, sober, and supportive therapeutic housing for individuals receiving Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorder treatment. The building consists of nine dorm-style units, nine apartment units, a living room area, a cafeteria, and a kitchen where staff prepare daily meals.

The dorm-style units are available for short-term stays (90-day maximum) while the apartments are available for year-long leases. All dorm-style and apartment units are furnished. Seven of the apartment units are studio-style, and two have a one-bedroom layout. In addition to being furnished, each apartment is equipped with a bathroom, fridge/freezer, and microwave.


Eligibility

Consumers are eligible for placement in The Shove House if they meet the following criteria:

  • Individuals must receive an income at or below 30% of the area median income (residents must provide documentation of their income upon admission)

  • Individuals must be homeless.

  • Individuals must be 18 years or older.

  • Individuals must be medically stable and demonstrate an ability to live and function independently.

  • Individuals must demonstrate a commitment to a clean and sober lifestyle.

  • Criminal background checks must not include a conviction for commercial drug operations, the manufacturing, delivering, or possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, a conviction for a violent offense, or a sex offense.

  • Individuals must have proof of citizenship of the United States or be lawfully in the United States with no immigration holds.

  • Individuals must be enrolled in mental health and/or chemical dependency services at Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare.

  • Individuals must commit to a personal Recovery Strategy while residing at The Shove House. Tenants are active participants in the development and articulation of their personalized Recovery Strategy, referred to as the clinically integrated treatment plan.

Consumers who are admitted to The Shove House dormitory rooms are admitted on a "day-by-day" basis. There is no guaranteed length of stay.


Admission

Admission to Shove House is by referral from an Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare mental health or substance use disorder services counselor and is subject to availability.

Individuals must have a counselor referral to be considered.

In addition to receiving a counselor referral, individuals are required to submit the following documents:

  • A completed and signed application

  • A copy of his/her Social Security Card

  • A copy of his/her Picture ID

  • A copy of his/her birth certification (accepted within one week of admission)

  • Proof of income (a copy of pay stubs or Department of Social and Health Services/Social Security printout will suffice)

  • A completed Disability Statement, if the individual is not receiving Social Security or Social Security Income

  • A Certificate of Homelessness (issued by The Shove House upon admission)

  • A certificate of rehabilitation completion or a certificate of current enrollment in a rehabilitation program if the individual has a drug possession charge within the last five years

Can my family stay with me at the Shove House?

We do allow family to visit during business hours. However, they are not permitted to stay at The Shove House. The Shove House theraputic housing for individuals with a mental health or substance use disorder.

Can anyone who is homeless stay at The Shove House?

No, The Shove House is designed as a therapeutic housing facility, meaning individuals staying at The Shove House must have a diagnosed mental health or substance use disorder and be enrolled in corresponding treatment through Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare.

Can my pet(s) live at The Shove House with me?

No, pets are not allowed to live with residents at The Shove House.

How do I get into The Shove House if I am not an OBHC client?

Request services! Complete the online OBHC Enrollment Application, visit the OBHC office in Omak, or call our office to move forward in the process of becoming a client.
